Hello and welcome to the Chelsea News Podcast with me your host Jack and in todays episode we will be talking about Chelsea being set to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli this summer for a fee of around 33 million euros. HE would mark our second big signing after the new ownership took charge and would be a big step in the right direction as he is thought of very highly across Europe, potentially even to the same level as Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk. He would even fit nicely into a new look defence, after Rudiger and Christensen leaving and the club needing a big overhaul. A defence of him, Mattias De Ligt who has also been linked with the club strongly this summer and either Trevoh Chalobah or Thiago Silva, that is a potentially title winning defence. You have the experience of an ex AC Milan and PSG defender, the quality of Koulibaly and the youth and leadership of Mattias De Ligt, who famously captained Ajax, in great style, to a Champions League semi final only a few seasons ago in a year that he won the Golden Boy award.
Koulibaly would mark a possible replacement for the outgoing Antonio Rudiger who was so good in these previous few seasons under Thomas Tuchel and has now left for Real Madrid. He could be an important part of the team moving forward and could thrive under the current manager Thomas Tuchel as he has been so good at developing centre backs to fit in his system at the blues. This could become yet another example of his coaching ability as he gets the best of yet another player.
