Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic Up for sale?
Hello and welcome to Chelsea News with me your host Jack Rigby. In todays episode we will be talking about the potential transfer away from Chelsea of both wingers Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic.
First of all lets start off with Christian Pulisic, the youngest and most well known player of the two. The American winger was outstanding when fit in the final part of the season under Frank Lampard in his last full season. He shone then and really was beginning to live up to the tag of the ‘next Eden hazard’ . As he was hitting those astounding levels though, something just had to bring him back down to earth again. Throughout his stay at Chelsea, he has been blighted with a series of injuries and cant seem to get enough momentum in order to stay in such a competitive Chelsea First Team.
In terms of looking to offload the American International, that may be tricky. The Blues purchased him for a hefty 60 million pounds during their transfer ban and he arrived at the beginning of Frank Lampards first season. It is fair to say that he hasn’t lived up to what was expected of him. He hasn’t turned out to be quite the player we thought he would be. But that is where the problem may lie. His value may have depreciated over the past 2 years due to his injury record and the covid pandemic. Chelsea wont want to lose any money on the 23 year old, which may make the deal difficult to negotiate.
In all honesty, I don’t think that Chelsea should sell the forward. We have seen glimpses of his brilliance at Stamford Bridge and all he needs to do is replicate this and stay injury free. In my eyes, Christian Pulisic has the ability to be Chelsea’s starting forward for the next 10 years.
Hakim Ziyech however is a different kettle of fish. He too has shown glimpses of brilliance, albeit in lesser competitions. The general feeling around Ziyech is that if he can stay fit, then the wizard of Amsterdam should be able to flourish. A major problem though is that he unlike Pulisic, does not have age on his side. The 28 year old looked like Chelsea’s best player in the past 2 pre seasons, such as scoring a hattrick against my local club Peterborough United. But seemingly, if Chelsea were to wish to sell the Morrocan international, he has many admirers in Europe. The likes of AC Milan are seemingly interested in taking him off of Chelsea’s hands, seemingly for more than the blues paid the Amsterdam based club, supposedly in the region of 45 million euros. That is a 5 million euro profit on a player that has slightly struggled during the past two years.
Overall, he has been a good servant to the blues, and has played bit part roles during the season, but I can say with confidence that I wouldn’t be as angry at the club for letting him go as I would if they did the same to Pulisic. Unless he starts to pull more starts together for the European Champions, this looks like the reality for the winger.
